The Sherline boring head is actually quite useful, however the 3/8" shank boring bars supplied are often to large for the work commonly done on a Mill the size of a Sherline. To resolve this, I prefer to use 3/16" and 1/8" shank solid carbide boring bars as shown on the left in the second attached photo as compared to the supplied one on the right.

Over the years I have owned both the sherline mill and the grizzly mini mill. The sherline was nice but it seems like it took forever to move the head down the column. It also took special sizes of everything from tee nuts to the taper in the spindle. Of course sherline was happy to sell you what you needed at very high prices.
