After grinding a hollow the front half was flattened in under 10 mins on a quite slow diamond plate You can probably see how scratching from a diamond plate stops somewhere at half the blade length. I'm not suggesting anyone should hollow grind their chisels. But if you want to mess around here's some pointers.
